Last week’s blood drive was a huge success. Saint Augustine’s University surpassed its goal of saving lives by donating 63 pints of blood.

The Office of External Relations and the Office of Community Outreach and Volunteerism partnered with Rex Blood Services to host the blood drive on campus. The blood drive was held in observance of National Sickle Cell Month as well as aimed at increasing blood donations from African Americans, which can help patients suffering from diseases such as sickle cell anemia, cancer and heart disease.

This was Rex Blood Services’ first blood drive at a historically black university.

“We would like to thank the entire SAU campus for their support for the first Saint Augustine’s University and UNC REX Healthcare Blood Drive,” said Ann Brown, director of the Office of Community Outreach and Volunteerism. “It was a success because of everyone’s commitment to help save lives.”
