Another Hall of Fame for Coach Williams!

Athletic Director and legendary Head Track and Field Coach George Williams of Saint Augustine’s University will be inducted into the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame on September 17, 2014. It will be the eighth Hall of Fame induction of his career.

“This is quite an honor,” Williams said. “I am delighted to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, especially as a representative of Saint Augustine’s University.”

Williams is a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Hall of Fame, the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, the Saint Augustine’s University Hall of Fame, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Hall of Fame, the Florida Track & Field Hall of Fame, the Booker T. Washington High School (Miami, Fla.) Hall of Fame and the Raleigh (N.C.) Hall of Fame.

The Multi-Ethnic Hall of Fame recognizes deserving athletes, coaches and community leaders across the country. Over 350 sports figures have been inducted including former basketball great Wilt Chamberlain, former Grambling coaching legend Eddie Robinson, former track & field sensation Carl Lewis and former boxing champions Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and Joe Frazier. The induction ceremony will take place at the Tuscany Suites & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., at 6 p.m. pacific standard time.

Coach Williams has guided Saint Augustine’s University to 35 NCAA Division II National Track & Field Championships and won over 150 coaching honors. The Falcons won the NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2013 and 2014. The 2004 U.S. Olympic Head Track & Field Coach, Williams was named the USTFCCCA Division II Men’s Indoor and Outdoor National Track & Field Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014.
